2023 Canada Games Coaching Staff

Apr. 22, 2021

The Canada Games Coaching staff for 2023 has been confirmed.

The 2023 Canada Games process has begun with the selection of the coaching staff. They have already been busy setting up info sessions and opening registration for those athletes interested in trying out for the team. Here's a little bit more background info on what each coach will bring to the team!

Head coach: Francois Caron

Francois brings over 12 years of coaching experience at both the house league and high performance levels. Although Francois has attended Canada Games events since 2001 as the Chef de Mission, Assistant Chef de Mission, and as part of the Mission Staff for Team PEI, this will be his first Canada Games as a coach! Francois has been a major positive influence for ringette coaches and athletes on PEI with his strategic and tactical coaching approach. Francois was the head coach of the U16 Wave team who captured the silver medal at the 2019 Canadian Ringette Championships, PEI’s first ever medal at this competition! Ringette PEI is very proud to have Francois as head coach of the 2023 Canada Games team and can’t wait to see what the team accomplishes!

Assistant coach: Tara O’Brien

Tara brings over 20 years of ringette experience between playing and coaching! Tara has coached at the league level, currently coaches at the high performance level, and was the head coach of the 2019 CWG team. Tara was also a member of the Canada Games ringette team back in 2003! Ringette PEI is excited to have Tara back to be part of the 2023 Canada Games coaching staff!

Assistant coach: Emily Hughes

Emily has 20 years of ringette goaltending experience. She has coached at both the house league and high performance levels. Emily was also part of the coaching staff that lead the U16 Wave team to PEI’s first ever medal at the 2019 Canadian Ringette Championships! Ringette PEI is thrilled that our team PEI goalies will be able to train and compete with Emily’s guidance and goalie expertise!

Assistant coach: Brynn VanWiechen

Another long-time ringette player, Brynn brings many years of ringette playing experience with a number of them being at the high performance level. Brynn has attended not one, but two Canada Games as an athlete in 2011 and 2015! Brynn has also coached high performance teams for a number of years. Ringette PEI is excited to have Brynn be part of giving our team PEI athletes the best Canada Games experience, the same she experienced twice before!
